An encounter with God and his creation

It is funny when children come up with their own version or understanding for certain things. It always intrigues me to see the tiny minds come up with brilliant ideas if you happened to ask them a simple question like how do you think this thing works. There seems to be perfect logic in what ever they tell with the confidence that they tell, that we kind of wonder could that be how this thing works!!!

The other day we along with another couple and our kids happened to visit this Shiva temple which has this huge statue of the lord adorned with snake and the Ganges spouting out of his dreadlocks. It is the most beautiful idol of the lord that I have ever seen!! Despite the commercialization around which I find a little over the top for a temple, I am always humbled sitting on the ground below and watching those eyes half shut in a meditative gesture. Very captivating indeed!!

My 5 year old and his friend..sorry..he calls him “the best ever friend of his in the entire world”.. seemed to be so mesmerized by the beauty of the idol that when we were performing the puja they ensured that the pundit was only half aware of what he was chanting since his complete attention was on what these two little kids were talking amongst each other.

Excerpts from their conversation while the Puja was going on:

Kid: Wow such a big Bhagwanji!!
Friend: Yes..such a huge Bhagwanji!!
Kid: Look at the snake round his neck. Snake is his best friend you know!!
Friend: Hmm..Yes..Snake is his best friend? Then what about him?

Showing the Tiger on whose skin the Lord was sitting!!

The Pundit couldn't help give them a big smile and hurriedly completed the puja.

We were just recovering from this wise crack when we had to enter the sanctum sanctorum of the nine planets which was shaped in the form of a globe and was pitch dark except for the diyas that were lit next to each of the planetary deity. There they loved the concept that their tiny voices were echoing and started their next round of wise cracks.

Kid: Wow look at all the candles. Shall we blow them?

I sternly said no. He didn’t stop at that.

As we were doing the "parikrama", as is customary in any temple, along with other devotees soberly chanting the name of god, two friends broke out into the "Happy Bday" song.

This beautiful darkness engulfed space with tiny diyas got the better of them and we the parents were too scared to stop else we would probably disturb the rest of the devotees..

"Happy Bday dear Bhagwanji, Happy Bday to you" they ended in chorus with the same enthusiasm as if it was the birthday party of one of their friends and with the most beautiful smile came out of the temple totally unaware of the people around them finding it difficult to pray while controlling their smile.

So much for kids and their wise cracks the most awesome wonders of the world!! They truly make your world a better place to live in!!
